Why Should You Distance Yourself?

When you’re in love with someone or something, you don’t feel the need to distance yourself. You always want to be present because their presence makes you feel comfortable. However, it’s important to note that distance doesn’t mean hatred — it is often a sign of respect. Distance is an act of existence. If something is never missed, how will you know it ever existed? Moving from simply knowing to wanting allows you to discover the true value you hold.

Why should you distance yourself? Read below:

  1. To understand yourself and the power you carry.
    Choosing to distance yourself allows you to recognize your own capabilities. It helps you determine whether you are in control or if something or someone else is controlling you. Often, we assume we are in charge simply because things are going smoothly, when in reality, we may just be going with the flow due to undefined desires or low self-esteem. Now is the time to take a step back and reflect.
  2. To grow.
    Retreating is essential for reflection — assessing what you have achieved, identifying past mistakes, and recognizing areas for improvement. Many people focus on short-term success without considering the sustainability of their actions. Taking a step back gives you clarity and direction for the future.
